Sale Season is Here - 5 Tips for Shopping During the Sales

Updated: Aug 23

To say I love a bargain, would be an understatement. The feeling you get when you buy something you had your eye on, or something you absolutely love, and it’s on SALE, it’s one of the best feelings in the world. However, it took me years to realise that there are a few things to keep in mind when you are being enticed by a sale, so you don’t come home with items that you’ll never wear.

1. Audit your Wardrobe

Before you step foot in a store, look in your own wardrobe and identify the pieces that need replacing and the pieces that are missing which might complement your current wardrobe. If you find this task a bit daunting, enlist the help of a stylist to help you identify the gaps in your wardrobe.

This will save you from buying pieces you already have, help you to identify the key items to look out for and also determine which clothes best suit your body shape and personal style.

2. Does the item on sale have 3 friends in your current wardrobe?

A common rule when buying clothing on sale, is to make sure that whatever you are buying can be styled with at least 3 other items in your wardrobe.

3. Buy Things that you LOVE

Only buy things that you absolutely love. Don’t buy something that doesn’t fit you or that you need to spend a fortune to have altered.

4. When Shopping for Shoes remember The Classics

When shopping for shoes on sale, go for classic styles and colours. Metallic (silver or gold) are easy to style into existing outfits. Black is always a great option, but also consider tan as a neutral alternative to black. Always look for comfortable styles that flatter your ankle.

5. Know the Return Policy

Clearance buys are often a great deal, but it’s important to read the fine print. A bargain is not a bargain if you can’t return it when ait doesn’t fit or find that it doesn’t go with anything else in your wardrobe.

Finally remember that Sales are there to tempt us, so ask yourself before buying:

  1. Do I love it?

  2. Can I wear it with at least 3 other items in my wardrobe?

  3. Can I return it, if I change my mind when I get home?

And remember buying one well made, quality piece is always better than buying numerous items of lesser quality. A well cut and made item, will prove to last longer and be more versatile, than fast fashion on trend items that may only least one season.

Happy New Year Friends!

See you in 2021!!
